Also happening in the sky right now in the relationship oriented Sign of Libra is another very important astrological event. Saturn turns Retrograde on January 13th and you will feel this energy in fair-minded Libra one way or another. Saturn teaches you life lessons by giving you the ability to grow and persevere, granting you the will to succeed and the strength to accomplish your life tasks. Mars Retrogrades for about 80 days every couple of years. This time Mars Retrogrades in Leo, the Sign of Leadership, on December 20th and will not turn Direct until March 10th. Pace yourself. Retrace your steps and make the most of this period, and have a good attitude about the necessity and helpfulness of this cycle! Saturn Retrograde Information

Happening in the sky right now in Libra is a very important astrological event. On October 29th Saturn entered Libra. Saturn has been transiting though work-focused, health conscious Virgo for two-and-a-half years. It’s a big deal when this serious planet enters a new Sign. Hopefully you’ve applied yourself during this Virgo time and have become healthier in body, mind and spirit, and streamlined your day-to-day activities. As Saturn shifts its focus from Virgo work to social Libra, your attention turns to relationships. Whether you’re married, seriously committed or single, you’re prompted to take your relationships more seriously.

Saturn in Libra has a duty to reestablish harmony and balance. Venus, the ruler of Libra, is also in Libra (entered on October 14th). Venus rules how you love, and how you value things in your life. On the high end, Venus is compassionate, and on the mundane level it rules how you appraise, access, and value things around you. Ever since Saturn’s entrance into Libra on October 29th, Saturn has been inching toward this square to powerful Pluto. This aspect is a game-changer and it will be around for a while with two more squares: one January 31, 2010 and the next on August 21, 2010. So pace yourself and don’t react quickly to anything! Saturn is your ‘builder.’ The way you structure your life and build upon the past to create your future –- well, that is Saturn’s job. Pluto is the planet that gets rid of anything that doesn’t work – even if it does not seem that way to you at the time. Simply – something’s got to give. Get ahead of the curve by ditching anything that is not really relevant to your life at this point.

On November 15th, Saturn formed the first square to Pluto, setting off a series of configurations whose influence will last for a few years. This astrological event promises to be intense in what it implies for all of us. When planets come into a square, they are perpendicular to each other like the right angles at the corner of a building. Saturn imposes limits, while Pluto tends to bring out obsessive behaviors. Saturn also produces a black cloud of pessimism to affairs, while Pluto intensifies the emotional impact of events. With this dynamic, it's likely that you'll feel quite restricted by social and environmental constraints, and that the influence of the society in which you live will have considerable impact upon your life, often appearing to be a negative one. Frustration may be inevitable. This Saturn-square-Pluto configuration will be touched off by other planets all through 2010. Saturn's recent entrance into Libra (where this responsibility-focused planet will remain for the next two-and-a-half years) will put your relationships into focus. In order to go through this difficult aspect, its recommended that you understand the influence of both Saturn and Pluto upon your life, as described in your Birth Chart. JUPITER TURNS DIRECT

On October 12th, Jupiter stationed direct. That means that it was at the point in its Retrograde (apparent backwards motion) cycle when it stops and turns forward again. Jupiter is in team-oriented Aquarius, where it will rejoin compassionate Chiron and spiritual Neptune in December, inviting us to rediscover a sense of community and collective creativity. Jupiter is all about expansion and growth. When it was in Retrograde motion (like it had been since June 15th) the emphasis was on inner growth. Once Jupiter is moving forward again it is easier to expand and create in the outer world. The themes associated with Jupiter are - educational goals, philosophy of life, religious and spiritual beliefs, literary and publishing endeavors, expansion of consciousness, team sports and group projects, long-distance travel, big business, providence and benevolence, good luck and fortune. The things to watch out for are overdoing it, unwise gambles, arrogance and pride. When a planet is stationing direct it is called a still point. There is a lot of potential in a still point. Imagine an archer drawing back his arrow. It is at the moment just before he releases the arrow that the course is chosen. Jupiter is now at that point, so it is a good time to take conscious aim.

What is it that you would like to expand in your outer world? What idea would you like to put into action? Now is the time to focus your intent. Think about what you desire, feel how it feels. You do not need to know the details now. Simply feel the energy of your creation. Imagine it is already done. Create a rich and powerful feeling sense of your desire. What would you do if you knew that you could not fail? Breathe it in and expand it out. Imagine you are holding a "Creation Arrow". Put all of your creation energy into it. In your mind's eye, see that beautiful arrow and aim it until it feels right. Now take a big breath, and let it go! Your creation is on its way! The next step is to take action that matches the energy of your creation. But Jupiter is a slow mover. It will be a while before it gets up to speed. So don't rush into action. Over the next weeks, watch for synchronicities, be aware of your dreams and listen for ideas. Maintain the feeling of your Creation Arrow and use that feeling to know what of the possible actions will most support your desired creation.

Full Moons are not only a culmination of what was set into motion during the previous New Moon, but also a time that highlights your emotional connections. Since Virgo is the sign of work, health and service, these themes will be emphasized over the next couple of weeks. Self-sufficiency is as important now as being open and flexible to shifting circumstances. Ask yourself what you can do to take better care of yourself and make your life more secure. This Full Moon will most affect those born in these Sun Signs: Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius.

Virgo, is the Sign famous for creating order and cleanliness and for never failing to offer help. Any Full Moon is an emotional, high tide time when you can assess where you are emotionally. Whenever the Full Moon is in Leo, the Sun is in Aquarius because the Moon and Sun are always opposite each other at a Full Moon. This Full Moon occurs with a lot of emotional potency with it being in the Sign of Leo and next to the planet Mars. Full Moons constitute a time-period of preparation for the illumination and enlightenment that can manifest when the Sun and Moon stand as equals on either side of the Earth.

Being that the Sun and Moon are always opposite each other during a Full Moon - this time, because Retrograde Mars is currently opposite the Sun, the Moon sits next to Mars, which heats up the emotional atmosphere quite a bit! Leadership, respect for yourself and others, and creativity are leading themes of Leo…so be sure to lead and create, while conducting yourself in an admirable way. Take into account that the current Saturn and Pluto square is also highlighted now (direct aspect on January 31st), which means that it's time to let go of whatever isn't working.

We are midway into the Mars Retrograde cycle (went Retrograde on December 20th and turning Direct on March 10th), the Sun and Mars form an opposition during this Full Moon, which means that while the Sun is on one side of the Earth and 180 degrees away, Mars is on the other side. Whenever you think of Mars, think of something heating up. It's an energized planet that also represents one of the most powerful advocates you could ever have. Nothing is moving quickly right now because of it being in Retrograde, so don't push -- and don't allow events or people to get you off-track. But do keep an eagle-eye out for anyone on a slow simmer who uses negativity as their fuel.

Being this final Lunar Eclipse is in the Water Sign Cancer, which makes it quite emotional and very compassionate. Whenever Lunar Eclipses occur in Water Signs, the sensitivity factor is ramped-up. All Lunar Eclipses are like an extra-intense Full Moon, an emotional high tide when you assess where you are emotionally. In the days following this Full Moon, but before the next New Moon, get a plan together to maximize what’s great -- or to make changes that will make you feel more comfortable. This Cancer Moon is opposed by the Sun, Venus, and Pluto in worldly Capricorn. The Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are located on opposite sides of the Earth. In this situation, the face of the Moon visible from the Earth is completely illuminated by the Sun. More specifically, the Full Moon occurs when the geocentric apparent longitudes of the Sun and the Moon are 180 degrees apart. This is a fancy way of saying that the Sun and the Moon are on opposite sides of the sky.

The Moon takes 27.3 days to orbit the Earth. But because the Moon is orbiting around the Earth in the same direction that the Earth is orbiting the Sun, the Moon takes an additional 2.2 days to return to the same position in the sky, where it's perfectly lined up with the Sun. That's why the amount of time it takes to go from a full moon to a full moon is 29.5 days long. Astronomers call this length of time a lunar month. One interesting side note, the month of February only has 28 days. Since that's less than the 29 day lunar month, there are some years where February doesn't have a single Full Moon. The last time this happened was in 1999, and it's expected to happen again in 2018.

When the Moon is full, it's at its brightest. Astronomers measure the brightness of an object using a term called apparent magnitude. The apparent magnitude of the Full Moon is -12.7. When the Moon is only at its first quarter, its brightness is -10.0, which is a reduction of 12x. Ancient peoples carefully recorded the times from full moon to full moon since those were some of the few times that they could actually see and get work done in the night – before we had artificial illumination.

A Blue Moon occurs when a single month has two Full Moons. The second Full Moon in a calendar month is known as a Blue Moon. Blue Moons tend to occur every 2.7 years. For more facts and information on Blue Moons and a current Blue Moon calendar click here.

MOON ENERGY
When the Moon is in a Cardinal Sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) generate ideas and get things started.
When the Moon is in a Fixed Sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) maintain follow-through and aim for completion.

VOID OF COURSE MOON
When the Moon is Void-Of-Course, spend time working on projects already in progress, creative endeavors, or self-improvement. Void-Of-Course simply means that no planets are aspecting the Moon. It's best not to start new projects, sign important agreements, or go shopping when the Moon is Void-Of-Course because the result will probably be unsatisfactory in some way.

The lunar cycle has a natural progression from the New Moon to the first quarter Moon to the Full Moon, when the Moon is increasing in light. Then we have the second quarter Moon and then it goes back to the New Moon. This takes a little over 29 days. It's good to keep this in mind when the Moon is new, since a New Moon is always a time of beginnings. Institute something that you want to grow or to become stronger. Since the last Full Moon (Blue Moon!), which occurred on December 31st (Lunar Eclipse), you had the opportunity to stand back and assess how far you've come. When last year closed, you had a great sense about what you wanted to bring into the New Year.

Mercury is getting ready to resume its regular speed of revolution (turns Direct on January 15th) and Venus is getting ready to move into another astrological sign, so make good use of this event by implementing a solid plan for yourself that includes emphasis on something you really want, contact with people who support your true self, and a timeframe that extends through the end of June & early July (the next Lunar and Solar eclipses respectively).

A New Moon occurs when the Earth, Sun and Moon are lined up so that the Moon is directly in between the Earth and the Sun. From this perspective, the side of the Moon covered in sunlight is turned away from the Earth, and the face we see is in shadow. The Moon takes approximately 29 days to complete the cycle from New Moon to Full Moon and then back to New Moon again. During a New Moon, the Moon is in conjunction with the Sun, as seen from Earth.

Astronomers call it a "New Moon", because shortly after the Moon is completely shadowed, a think crescent peeks out from one side. This is the beginning of the Moon's rise to brightness over the next 2 weeks. The exact time this occurs depends on your geography on Earth, but it will always occur in the Western horizon between Sunset and Moonset.

The orbit of the Moon isn't exactly lined up the the orbital plane of the Sun and the planets, so it doesn't actually get exactly between the Earth and the Sun. When this exact line does happen, the New Moon is seen as a Solar Eclipse, darkening the Sun by various amounts depending on your position on the Earth.
