SPIRITUAL ASTROLOGY READINGS BY LINDA BERRY
LISTEN TO THE SPIRITUAL DISCOVERY RADIO SHOW WITH HOST LINDA BERRY In ancient times, Astrology was a part of man's earliest attempts to understand the Cosmos, and answer that especially thorny, question: "Why?" Then, modern science began, and Astrology, slowly began to slide into Astronomy, and Psychology. Today, Astronomy studies, "How" the Universe 'is'. How it works, what it's made of, but 'why' is still a very mysterious question. For some, the "why" question is really more of a religious or spiritual question, certainly not the domain of modern science, traditionally. Today, however there's a powerful resurgence of interest in the special knowledge and perspectives of 'Astrology'. About 1500, yrs ago, both Western & Eastern Astrology, described the same sky. The Sun, Moon & Planets of our Solar system, moved around, within a blanket, sky of constellations or Signs, that were always the same. Every spring, the Sun would move into Aries, and every Summer, Cancer, and Leo, and every winter, Capricorn, Aquarius & Pisces. It's amazing really, how similar both systems are! Both, believe that the Sun, Moon & Planets represent a language of Nature, that quite precisely, captures the special, unique and personal nature, characteristics, qualities & tendencies of every human being born, upon this Earth. In addition, both systems believe that the Planets, moving through the 'sky' represents the Karmas, or characteristics of our personalities, moving through all the different areas of our lives. Find the Earth, in that picture/drawing, in the middle, draw 12 slices of a pie, around the Earth, and those '12 slices' represent all the different areas of the Life. Traditionally, called "Houses", these sections of the sky, literally represent all the various ways and areas in which we live. For example the 1st slice represents the body, the actual birth, how difficult, how smooth; the 4th represents one's propensity or karma, or characteristics of happy or sad, home life. The 7th slice represents one's initial birth tendencies for happy or sad married life. The 10th slice represents every individual person's tendency to be attracted to this or that kind of career. (Hover over the symbols on the colorful chart graphic on the home page for more details about how Astrology and Astronomy works) Both systems also believe our Astrology chart, has the ability to show us, exactly, what a person's strengths & weaknesses, will be upon coming to this Earth. Take the exact moment and place of anyone's birth. Take a 'snapshot' of the exact position of the Sun, Moon, & Planets at that moment, and that 'picture' is a literal picture, blueprint, or 'chart' of any person's life. Astrology is an ancient tradition which states that the character and destiny of a human being is influenced by the position of the planets at the moment of birth. Its roots and practice have influenced almost every culture from antiquity until today, and it has been used throughout its long history by different peoples for every imaginable purpose. Astrology's most constructive contemporary expression is as a discipline freed of superstition and fatalism and based on Free Will. While it declares that the stars do influence our life (energy from the planets), it also acknowledges that the stars are not the sole cause of human behavior. Over 2000 years ago, Aristotle was credited with the famous maxim, "Man and the stars generate man," which means that the influence of the sky is received and conditioned by the person's place in society. Circumstantial factors like culture, religion, education, age, and gender also affect the individual's behavior and possibilities in life. Thus, both the stars and the human being's worldly circumstance cooperate in the development of human life. This must never be forgotten. As the old adage goes, "The opportunities forthcoming to the child of a rich person are different than those of a child born into poverty." Astrology's immediate value lies in enabling us to orient and order our lives. It encourages the growth of emotional maturity and guides us towards the satisfaction of a cheerful and peaceful mind amid the turbulence of an active life. Pragmatically, it offers an objective view of ourselves and teaches a rational approach for managing our daily affairs. Astrology's practice in due time becomes a way of life.

(Blue Moon #1 - see Calendar below for dates): The original definition of a "Blue" Moon is when there are four Full Moons in one season. A season covers the time between a Solstice and Equinox or an Equinox and Solstice. There are four seasons in a year marked by two Solstices and two Equinoxes. Counting from the December Solstice what is found is there are generally three Full Moons in each season or 12 Full Moons per year. Occasionally there are 4 Full Moons in one season from Solstice to Equinox or Equinox to Solstice and in those years there are 13 Full Moons from December Solstice to the next December Solstice.
Looking at the year 2005 there are only 12 Full Moons in that calendar year. However, consider the number of Full Moons from the December Solstice in 2004 to the December Solstice in 2005 there are 13 Full Moons. This is not always the case! For example, in 2004 there were 13 Full Moons in the calendar year from January 1st to December 31st but only 12 Full Moons from December Solstice 2003 to December Solstice 2004. Going back to December 20, 2001 to December 19, 2002 and December 22, 1999 to December 11, 2000 to find 13 Full Moons between the December Solstices.
(Blue Moon #2 - see Calendar below for dates): More recently, the term Blue Moon has also been used to describe the occurrence of two Full Moons in a calendar month. This current understanding of a Blue Moon comes from an 1940's Astronomy Magazine article that gave the definition of a Blue Moon as the second Full Moon in a calendar month. Like the occurrence of 4 Full Moons in a season, two Full Moons in a calendar month only occurs every two and a half to three years. Although, four Full Moons in a season has greater astronomical significance than two Full Moons in a calendar month. This is because our calendar months are not astronomically based on the solar seasonal cycle of Solstices and Equinoxes nor does it have a Lunar basis but is rather set to a specific start date of January 1st which is not connected to the solar or lunar cycle.

KARMIC INSIGHT & SHAMANIC HEALING
(Blue Moon #3 - see Calendar below for dates): There is another Blue Moon phenomenon that takes place with the same frequency as two Full Moons in a calendar month or four Full Moons in season. About every two and half to three years there will be two Full Moons in a row in the same Zodiac Sign. This only occurs when the first Full Moon is in Zero or One degree of a Sign and the next Full Moon is in 28 or 29 degrees of the same Sign. For example July 24, 2002 there was a Full Moon at 1 degree and 18 minutes of Aquarius, the following month on Aug 22nd there was another Full Moon at 29 degrees and 39 minutes of Aquarius. This happened again in 2005 on June 22nd when the Full Moon was at Zero Degrees and 51 minutes of Capricorn and then on July 21st it was at 28 degrees and 47 minutes of Capricorn.
The common definition of a Blue Moon suggesting the term Blue Moon may have originated from the bluish tinge the Moon gets when viewed through smoke. In this case, the theory is that someone saw the Moon appearing quite blue through the smoke of a large distant fire (like a forest fire) and therefore the original term “Blue Moon” was literal. In all these definitions of a Blue Moon, either as seen through smoke, or the number of Full Moons in a season, or two Full Moons in a month, or two Full Moons in the same Astrological Sign, the factor that is common to all of them is that these are rare occurrences that captivate the imagination.

BLACK MOON
Black Moon is the name given to the less understood and less touted second New Moon in the course of a single calendar month. The Black Moon opens a portal to other dimensions. Honored by Wiccans and various schools of Magicians, the Black Moon is a fertile time to connect with ghosts, the world of fairies, and the planes where the Ascended Masters walk. It augurs a cycle of mystery and magic, even more mystical than the Blue Moon. The double New Moons are associated with higher consciousness (connecting with Higher-Self, Guides, and Angels), altered states of awareness, and hidden spiritual wisdom.

The Sun and the Moon teach us about the natural cycles of life. The Moon cycles in and out of light, represented by the illumination of the full Moon, the balance of light and dark at the quarter Moons, and the darkness of the pre-new and new Moon. At the dark of the Moon, the Sun and Moon conjoin to conceive a new process together. Watching and participating with the phases of the Moon is a way for us to tune into the most basic mysteries of As Above, So Below. Each person is coded with their own special phase of the Moon determined at birth. Knowing our own personal Moon phase, working with it, and honoring it, is a way to align with and discover a deeper understanding of our own personal mysteries.
There is much evidence that supports the idea that from ancient times the many faces of the Great Goddess were closely linked to the many phases of the Moon. The Moon's phases guided many ancient cultures. They looked to the Moon to align with the natural rhythms of life. The Moon phases guided them in knowing when to plant, hunt, nd perform ceremonial rites, including fertility rites. It was natural for these cultures to have a magical connection with the environment. The phases of the Moon helped them join their inner world of dreams and visions with their outer world that co-existed in resonant harmony with the forces of nature.
SOLAR AND LUNAR ECLIPSES
SPECIAL ECLIPSE READING PACKAGES!!!
It is found that modern astrology has inherited eight defined phases of the Moon: the New Moon, Crescent Moon, First Quarter Moon, Gibbous Moon, Full Moon, Disseminating Moon, Last Quarter Moon, and Balsamic Moon. These phases correspond to the Equinox and Solstice seasons as well as the cross quarter seasons such as Beltane. The Sun and Moon begin and complete their dance approximately every 28 days. Typically, the Moon's cycle is believed to begin when the Sun and the Moon are exactly conjunct (together in the sky). The "New Moon" is not seen, however a day or two later a tiny crescent becomes visible in the evening sky. Some calendars such as the Jewish and Muslim have their lunar months beginning with the evening when the Moon first appears and not with the exact conjunction of the Sun and Moon. In the ancient temples, the Priestesses did their most powerful ceremonies at the "dark of the Moon" or near the exact conjunction, when the Moon was invisible from naked eye observation. The ceremonies performed for the community were then done when the tiny crescent first appeared.
Some cultures see the Sun as representing the masculine mysteries and the Moon as representing the feminine mysteries. However, their are other cultures that saw the Sun and Moon in reverse roles (some still do). That is one reason why in Shamanic Astrology the Sun and the Moon do not represent the feminine and masculine mysteries. Venus and Mars are more specifically suited to that role. However, the cycle of the Sun and the Moon works as a prototype for the cycles of the initiation planets, or outer planets, from Jupiter on out. Mercury, Venus, and Mars have cycles that are uniquely different due to how closely they orbit the Sun. The Sun and the Moon do represent co-creative principles, each with specific functions. So, when we understand the Sun/Moon cycle we have a framework for understanding our own personal cycles.
At the conjunction of the Sun and the Moon (also during Solar Eclipses) something is conceived; a thought, an idea, a project, etc. The Sun is fiery, luminous light, representing conscious awareness. Without the Sun to reflect on her surface, the Moon is dark, containing the deep mysteries of the unseen, of the unconscious. At the conjunction, the Moon is invisible, obscured by the brilliance of the Sun's light, so what is conceived occurs deep within the unconscious. The Sun then assists in bringing into our conscious awareness the mysteries of the Moon. These luminaries dance together, the Moon unseen, for about three of four days, and then separate. We first notice the tiny crescent Moon in the evening sky a day or two after the exact New Moon. Thus, the Moon begins her process of waxing or gestating what was conceived. The Sun provides the increasing light of awareness and fuel for the process. The quarter Moons signal the balance between light and dark. The first quarter Moon is waxing or continuing to gain light, to gain awareness. The last quarter Moon is waning or decreasing in light, diving into the darkness to prepare for a new process. For those of you interested in watching the Moon's phases, the crescent Moon appears in the west just after sunset. It appears higher in the sky each evening, until the Full Moon rises in the east sometime after sunset. The waning Moon rises later and later in the east, until it is rising in the early morning hours and is visible after sunrise.

The equinoxes are the seasonal time of balance and harmony when the days and nights are equal in length. During the equinoxes, the Earth’s auric or magnetic field is affected by the Sun’s alignment with the Earth’s equator. Twice each year, at the equinoxes, the Sun rises and sets exactly over the equator remaining closely aligned there for approximately 48 hours. The equinox solar affect produces a reduction in the magnetic field of the Earth, allowing us to connect more easily with other dimensions. The equinox effect begins around 24 hours before, and ends around 24 hours after, the exact Equinox point. Thus, the Sun’s annual rhythmic cycle is intimately wired to our experience of the seasons. Certain seasonal cycles are optimum timings for connecting with Earth’s sacred sites all over the planet. Doorways into the mysteries are more easily accessed during this time and when we consciously engage this energy we have an even greater opportunity to activate our own experience of these sacred timings and what they have to offer us.
Celebrate the Fall Equinox
Come to the Mystical Readers Salon!!!
The ancient architects and builders of Chaco Canyon (in New Mexico) were inspired to build what is essentially now explained as some sort of equinox corridor in their main building complex. This corridor marks the equinox Sunrise, tracks the Sun’s journey through the sky, and then marks the equinox Sun set. This corridor was designed to capture the "So Below" experience of this "As Above" bi-annual event, giving us another potent clue about the importance of this seasonal timing. This understanding may inspire each of us to tune in and discover what significance the equinox timings represent for us individually and collectively.
Fall (September) Equinox
It is fascinating to note that the Zero Libra point, marking the Fall Equinox, is currently aligned with the North Galactic Pole. The North Galactic Pole lies 90 degrees north of the Galactic Plane in the constellation of Coma Berenices. This particular near exact alignment only happens for 144 years, during a 26,000 year cycle as the equinox and solstice points move one degree every 72 years. The exact alignment is happening now.
The rising Sun at the September Equinox obscures our view of this constellation and the North Galactic Pole. Astronomers consider this region of the sky one of the best for studying other galaxies, because the conditions here are favorable, in essence creating a clear window to see other galaxies. This gives us further clues about what we can tune into during this timing as the brightness of the Sun, also seen as a “doorway (or window?) into the knowing” according to the Upanishads, activates the North Galactic Pole and the constellation of Coma Berenices. This timing then may be an excellent opportunity to more clearly experience our intergalactic connections, and to receive a greater understanding of our relationship to time and space.
The constellation of Coma Berenices also gives us some important clues about this area of the sky. The symbol of hair conjures up many images and mythical stories. In some traditions hair symbolizes our connection to personal power, life force, and strength, i.e. Samson. In the story of Rapunzel her hair symbolized a link to the outside world, and the sacred masculine (Prince) who intended to free her from her prison tower. Other traditions see hair as a symbolic link to the power of thought, spiritual knowing and inspiration, and higher powers. The black hair of Kali symbolizes Time, the matted hair of Siva symbolizes the ascetic, the curled hair of the Buddha symbolizes mastery of life force in a tranquil and serene state. (Sourced from An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols by J.C. Cooper)
These images provide additional dimensions to the significance of the Autumnal Equinox (as it is experienced in the Northern Hemisphere, or the seasonal point of the year marking the crossing of the return threshold from the journey that began at Winter Solstice, and the seasonal time of final harvest and preparation before a new cycle begins. In essence, this begins an in-between the worlds experience (represented by crossing through the return gateway), not of the world of the previous quest and not fully of the world where the quest began because so much has grown and changed. The alignment of this seasonal point with the North Galactic Pole lets us know that we are truly becoming more multi-dimensional, as we learn how to consciously exist in many realms simultaneously. Accessing the mysteries from this multi-dimensional perspective enhances our ability to consciously dream the dream onward. There are no rules about how to engage this timing. Indeed, it may be time to create new ways that are alive and significant for us now when we ceremonially participate with the mysteries of the turning of the seasons. Tuning into your own guidance is the best way to align with what is true for you at this time and how best you can connect with these mysteries.
